Stig Arne Skjerven elected New President of the ENIC Network
NOKUT’s Director of Foreign Education Stig Arne Skjerven is the new president of the European Network of Information Centres – ENIC. The presidency is for a two-year period.
– I am looking forward to working on strengthening the network over the next two years. Together with the Network, I will contribute in making recognition more visible in the relevant European and international arenas. The fact that a representative from NOKUT was elected President of the ENIC Network is connected to NOKUT being visible internationally in the field of recognition. An increasing number of countries are interested in the methods we have developed over the last few years, in particular relating to refugees and persons with insufficient document, says NOKUT’s Director of Foreign Education Stig Arne Skjerven.
The two Vice Presidents in the ENIC Bureau for the next two-year period are Lucie Trojanova from the Czech Republic and Raphael Michael Nevarez from the United States. The election took place in the annual ENIC-NARIC meeting, which this year was organized in Copenhagen in the end of June 2017.
ENIC Network – The European Network for Information Centers
To implement the Lisbon Recognition Convention and, in general, to develop policy and practice for the recognition of qualifications, the Council of Europe and UNESCO have established the ENIC Network. In addition to that, the ENIC Network plays a key role in the implementation of the Council of Europe/UNESCO Convention on the recognition of qualifications concerning higher education in the European Region adopted in Lisbon on 11 April 1997. It is called the Lisbon Recognition Convention. The ENIC Network consists of all countries that have signed and ratified the Lisbon Convention.
The NARIC Network is similar to the ENIC Network, but is supported by the European Commission. In most countries members of the European Union and the EEA Countries area NARIC at the same time as being an ENIC. However, in other countries in Europe there are only ENICs. The two networks cooperate very closely, both through the annual meetings and through developing the joint website.
