Three university colleges have corrected deficiencies in quality assurance work
The Board of NOKUT has decided that Barratt Due College (BDC), the Norwegian Gestalt Institute (NGI), and the University College of Vocational Education (HØFY) have corrected the deficiencies identified during reviews in 2024. The quality assurance work at all three institutions is now considered satisfactory.
During reviews carried out in 2024, deficiencies were identified in the institutions’ systematic quality assurance work. Following a twelve-month remediation period, the institutions have documented that the deficiencies have been addressed. This documentation has been assessed by expert committees, and the Board of NOKUT has made final decisions in the cases.
“Systematic quality assurance is essential to ensuring high-quality education. We see that all three institutions have worked purposefully to correct the deficiencies, and that their quality assurance work now meets a satisfactory standard,” says Kristin Vinje, Director General of NOKUT.
Barratt Due College: Well-adapted measures
The expert committee concludes that BDC has worked well and systematically to improve the areas that were deemed deficient in 2024. The committee particularly highlights that simplifications in the quality assurance system and the organisation of quality assurance activities have improved implementation capacity. The committee also commends BDC for its ability to tailor quality assurance work to the institution’s distinctive characteristics, including the close teaching relationship between students and instructors and challenges related to small academic environments.
Further development of the quality assurance system at the Norwegian Gestalt Institute
The expert committee finds that NGI has further developed its quality assurance system in a sound manner, noting in particular clear improvements in work related to the learning environment, as well as increased systematic practice and documentation of quality assurance activities. At the same time, the committee points out that limited resources may affect the institution’s ability to remedy quality shortcomings quickly enough and recommends that NOKUT follow up the institution three to four years after the review has been concluded.
Clearer strategic alignment at the University College of Vocational Education
HØFY has documented solid work during the remediation period. The deficiencies identified in 2024 have been addressed in a convincing manner, and the systematic quality assurance work is now considered satisfactory. HØFY has analysed its strategic efforts and more closely aligned strategic work with quality assurance activities. The institution has also revised its quality assurance system and piloted a new procedure for how the college will carry out systematic monitoring and periodic evaluation.
About remediation following reviews
If NOKUT identifies deficiencies in an institution’s quality assurance work through review, the institution is given a deadline of up to twelve months to rectify the issues. The institution must document that the deficiencies have been corrected and that it complies with the requirements for quality assurance systems and quality assurance work as set out in sections 1-7 and 1-8 of the Regulations Relating to Universities and University Colleges. Documentation of remediation is assessed by an expert committee before the Board of NOKUT makes a final decision in the case.
