NOKUT accredits Professional studies in Psychology at UiA
NOKUT has decided to accredit Professional studies in Psychology at the University of Agder (UiA). Consequently, the university can apply to the Ministry of Education to establish the study program.

"I would like to congratulate the University of Agder. They have demonstrated that they meet all the necessary requirements to offer professional studies in psychology," says Hege Brodahl, Head of Section for Higher Education.
In February, UiA received preliminary accreditation from NOKUT. The requirement at that time was that the university had to strengthen the academic environment in developmental psychology before the study program could be accredited, and UiA was given one year to document that this had been done. UiA has already submitted documentation showing that the academic environment has been strengthened, the expert committee has assessed that the improvements are sufficient, and NOKUT has accredited the program.
"Before the university can start the study programme, they must apply to the Ministry of Education for final approval," Brodahl concludes.
Assessed by an expert committee
Applications for accreditation have been assessed by an expert committee consisting of people from the same subject area with relevant background and experience. UiA sent their first application for Professional studies in Psychology in 2021, but the application was rejected. The application, which has now been approved, was submitted to NOKUT by the application deadline in September 2023.
The committee has evaluated whether all accreditation requirements have been met. NOKUT’s decision follows the recommendations of the expert committee. The committee has also provided advice to UiA on how they can further develop the study program.
