Kristin Vinje Elected Vice-President of ENQA
NOKUT’s Director General, Kristin Vinje, has been elected Vice-President of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
ENQA is the European umbrella organization for national quality assurance agencies in higher education, of which NOKUT is a member. With more than 60 members, ENQA plays a key role in developing quality assurance to promote educational quality across Europe.
Vinje has served on ENQA’s Board for the past two years and has now been elected Vice-President. The election took place on Thursday, 23 October, during ENQA’s General Assembly in Brussels, where the organization also celebrated its 25th anniversary.
“There is a great deal of important work taking place in higher education in Europe – including the development of a European degree and the revision of the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance, which Norway has adopted. I am grateful for the trust placed in me and will do my best to help strengthen the quality of education both in Norway and in Europe,” says Vinje.
The European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) form the foundation for quality assurance of higher education across Europe. The Norwegian quality assurance system is based on the ESG, both in NOKUT’s external quality assurance work and in the institutions’ own efforts to ensure the quality of their study programmes. These standards and guidelines are currently being revised, and ENQA plays an important role in this process.
“We live in a time marked by unrest, disinformation, and crises. In this reality, education is becoming increasingly vital – both for individuals’ ability to acquire knowledge and think critically, and for society’s overall resilience. Having common European standards for quality assurance helps ensure public trust that our educational programmes maintain high quality,” says Vinje.
