Here you can find an overview of sources that can be helpful in your assessment of foreign higher education:

NOKUT's databases

  • NOKUT's country database
    Here you can find information on the main principles governing the recognition of educational systems and the most common degrees in selected countries. You will also find information on the recognition of foreign degrees in Norway: Minimum requirements for recognition as higher education in Norway, education that is recognized as equivalent to Norwegian higher education, and the most common educational degrees awarded in each country.   • The GSU-list
    The GSU-list (Higher Education Entrance Qualification for foreign applicants) is used by Norwegian universities and university colleges in the admission process to higher education. In addition it is used in NOKUT’s assessment of applications for general recognition of foreign education. Go to the GSU-list

Accredited foreign education institutions

  • International Association of Universities / World Higher Education Database
    This is an external list of higher education institutions, systems and credentials. The list is extracted on a periodic basis from the database maintained by the International Association of Universities. Normally, education pursued at one of the institutions in the list will give grounds for recognition, but in itself it does not imply a guarantee for recognition.   • Anabin
    This is a German database that provides information about accredited institutions in most countries. Go to Anabin
  • CHEA – Council for Higher Education Accreditation (USA)
    There are many accreditation bodies in the United States. It is not uncommon that an institution has several types of accreditations. Regional accreditation provides institutional accreditation. NOKUT's claim that the institution must be accredited by one of the six regional accreditation bodies in the United States. Go to CHEA – Council for Higher Education Accreditation (USA)

  • Enic-Naric
    This is a gateway to recognition of academic and professional qualifications.
    ENIC: European Network of Information Centres in the European Region. NARIC: National Academic Recognition Information Centres in the European Union. Go to Enic-Naric

  • Australian Education International: Country Education Profile (CEP)
    This public office in Australia provides information and advice on education systems worldwide, and lists of accredited institutions in these countries. Go to Country Education Profile Online
