Documentation requirements – Recognition of foreign craft and journeyman’s certificates

On this page, you will find information about the documentation you must upload together with your application for recognition.

NOKUT’s general documentation requirements for vocational education and training

NOKUT reserves the right to ask for additional information; this could be for instance a vocational education programme.

A document confirming your vocational qualification equivalent to a craft or journeyman’s certificate

A document confirming that the vocational education and training has been completed. This could for instance be a diploma or certificate.

A document that gives an overview of training, practice, education and work experience.

This is relevant only if you have changed your name.

Valid documents for proof of name change:

  • Marriage certificate (Norwegian or foreign) that contains both your old and new name
  • Divorce certificate (Norwegian or foreign) that contains both your old and new name
  • Confirmation of name change issued by the competent official authority in the country where you had your name changed
  • Confirmation of name change issued by the Norwegian National Registry

If you are not a resident in Norway, but wish to apply for NOKUT’s recognition of your qualification, please document your work relation to Norway. This could for instance be an employment contract or the Registration certificate for EU/EEA nationals.

If you do not have MinID, please upload a copy of your identity document:

  • Please upload a copy of the page showing your full name, date of birth and photo. If this information is on different pages, please upload copies of all pages containing name, birth date and photo.
  • Please do not upload copies of blank pages.

Valid identity documents:

  • Valid international passport (including emergency passport
  • Family passport
  • National identity card issued by an EEA or EFTA country
  • Norwegian refugee travel document
  • Norwegian immigrant’s Passport

Documentation requirements for specific countries

Below, you can find detailed information about NOKUT’s documentation requirements for Germany and Poland.

Duale Ausbildung

  • Diploma/certificate confirming completed vocational education and training: Prüfungszeugnis.
  • Diploma/certificate from vocational training school, with transcript of grades:  Berufsschulzeugnis.
  • Craft or journeyman’s certificate (if issued): Fachbrief/Gesellenbrief (Urkunde).

Berufsfachschule

  • Diploma/certificate confirming completed vocational education and training: Abschlusszeugnis/Prüfungszeugnis.

Zasadnicza Szkoła Zawodowa

  • Diploma/certificate confirming completed vocational education and training: Świadectwo ukończenia szkoły zasadniczej or Dyplom uzyskania tytułu zawodowego or Dyplom potwierdzający kwalifikacje zawodowe.
  • School Diploma/certificate with transcript of grades: Świadectwo ukończenia szkoły zasadniczej or Świadectwo ukończenia zasadniczej szkoły zawodowej.
  • Craft or journeyman’s certificate: Świadectwo czeladnicze. If you do have Świadectwo czeladnicze and went to vocational school, you need to submit documents of both.

Technikum

  • Diploma/certificate confirming completed vocational education and training: Świadectwo ukończenia technikum (technikum zawodowego) or Dyplom uzyskania tytułu zawodowego or Dyplom potwierdzający kwalifikacje zawodowe w zawodzie nauczanym na poziomie technika.
  • School Diploma/certificate with transcript of grades: Świadectwo ukończenia technikum (technikum zawodowego, uzupełniającego) or Świadectwo dojrzałości technikum.

Szkoła Policealna

  • Diploma/certificate confirming completed vocational education and training: Dyplom uzyskania tytułu zawodowego or Dyplom potwierdzający kwalifikacje zawodowe.
  • School diploma/certificate with transcript of grades: Świadectwo ukończenia szkoły policealnej.

NOKUT does not assess master craftsperson certificates (Dyplom mistrzowski).

Translations

Official documents (*) issued in a different language than English or one of the Nordic languages, must be translated into Norwegian or English. The translation must be done by the educational institution or a government-authorised translator. The name of the translator must be apparent in the documents. 

(*) For instance diploma, craft or journeyman’s certificate, transcript of grades and proof of name change.

Other documents than those mentioned above, must not necessarily be translated by a government-authorised translator. In these cases, the name of the translator must be apparent on the translation.

  • NOKUT recommends that you use a government-authorised translator. You can find a list of authorised translators in Norway at Translatørportalen.
  • If you were given documentation in two languages by your educational institution (where one of the languages is Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, Finnish or English), this documentation can be submitted instead of translations.
  • NOKUT does not require translation of documents issued in Icelandic and Finnish, but we do recommend that you have them translated into Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. This is to ensure faster processing of your application. It may also be that the case officer will require a translation.
  • You can have your documents translated in Norway or abroad.
  • If the submitted translations are not good enough, NOKUT reserves the right to ask for new translations.
