Vocational education which is not considered higher education in the country of origin
If you have completed your vocational education at a type of school not recognized/accredited as higher education in your country of origin, you should send an application with copies of your educational documents to the County Authority in the county where you live. Higher Education Entrance Qualification and applications for admission to a first cycle degree in Norway
If you wish to know whether you fulfil the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification in Norway, you should apply to the Universities and Colleges Admission Service for an assessment.
If you wish to apply for admission to a first cycle degree (Associate’s degree/Bachelor’s degree) at a Norwegian institution of higher education, you should submit your application to the relevant admissions body (Universities and Colleges Admission Service or the educational institution you wish to attend), which will assess your education in accordance with the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification in Norway.
Applying for admission to Master’s and Doctoral degrees
If you wish to apply for admission to a Master’s degree programme, you should submit your application to the institution in question. They will assess whether your application meets the requirements for admission to the programme and, if applicable, grant you credit transfer from your foreign education qualifications.
Doctoral education takes place through publicly announced PhD positions, where admission is determined through a hiring process. You may contact the educational institution directly, but it is also possible to apply for a PhD grant through the Research Council of Norway.
Subject specific recognition compared to a Norwegian title/degree
If you require subject specific recognition of your degree assessed against a specific Norwegian degree, you should send an application with copies of your educational documents to an educational institution in Norway that offers such a degree. Subject specific recognition is normally given in connection with further studies.
