The application process at NOKUT.
All applications for recognition of foreign higher education are assessed through the following process:
Registration:
The applicant submits an application form with educational documentation to NOKUT.
Within one month after NOKUT has received the application, a receipt is sent to the applicant stating that the application has been registered. Any missing documentation is requested at the same time. If the requested documentation has not been received within two months, the case will be dismissed. This deadline can be extended by contacting NOKUT and informing us of when the documentation will be sent.
Evaluation of the education:
When all necessary documentation has been submitted, the evaluation process begins. The estimated processing time is between 2 and 4 months.
Result and potential appeal:
The applicant will receive a document stating the decision made by NOKUT.
Any decision made by NOKUT is an individual decision against which the applicant has the right to appeal pursuant to the Public Administration Act, §28. The deadline for appeals is three weeks upon the receipt of NOKUT’s decision.
A written appeal must be submitted with any relevant additional information. NOKUT will reassess the case. If the decision is sustained, the case will be forwarded to an appeals committee appointed by the Ministry of Education and Research. The appeals committee meets a few times a year.
